The mirror is located in a storage room in Brookhaven Hospital and takes up an entire wall. If you didn’t share her fear going into the game, you will by the end of the infamous mirror room scene. It’s established early on in Silent Hill 3 that protagonist Heather Mason is afraid of mirrors. It’s such a similar setup to the first Silent Hill, but manages to present an entirely new and still unsettling experience. Then, right at the edge of town, you’re lured by the sound of a broken radio into your first encounter with one of Silent Hill’s demented residents. It starts on the hike down the cliffside along Toluca Lake, where the camera angles and odd sounds from the surrounding woods all but confirm the presence of. The fog is in full force in Silent Hill 2, making everything about James Sunderland’s walk into town that much creepier. So when she dies, stumbling and bleeding a waterfall from her head for no immediately apparent reason, it’s all the more tragic and disturbing. Lisa was one of the few friendly faces in your first visit to Silent Hill a scared nurse just as confused about what’s going on as protagonist Harry Mason. It’s also the first time we hear the wailing siren that would later be used to mark Pyramid Head’s entrance in the sequel, but which is just as haunting on its own. Then, before you know it, hospital fixtures start appearing where they shouldn’t be, everything is rust and blood, and we get a frenzied industrial track from Yamaoka to punctuate the horror. Its use of disorienting camera angles as you explore the alleyway creates a stunning sense of foreboding right from the start. The first transition into the Otherworld or Alternate version of Silent Hill is one of the most iconic scenes in the entire series. (Seriously, do not pick up that doll.) 9. To protagonist James Sunderland, Thomas Orosco takes the form of the Abstract Daddy enemy, which you first encounter as a boss in the Labyrinth. Most repulsive of all is probably Angela Orosco’s father. Silent Hill 2 dealt with subject matter dark enough to put many other horror games to shame. Going elbow deep in a clogged toilet in Silent Hill 2. Other notable bathroom scenes in Silent Hill include: kid crying in bathroom stall in the first Silent Hill. The atmosphere in Toluca Prison is as thick as the fog in town, but this isn’t a list of scariest locations in Silent Hill so we’re left with this single scene. Scarlet makes for a chilling boss fight, despite later serving as inspiration for one of the dumbest scenes in the film Silent Hill: Revelations. It’s also the way her theme song, a haunting lullaby from Akira Yamaoka, starts up right as the hellish marionette begins lumbering towards you. It’s partly Scarlet’s nightmarish design a spider-like, towering, emaciated children’s toy, seemingly made of porcelain until her bony limbs start to crack, bloody, under each blow. Yet, there’s something about the Scarlet boss fight in Silent Hill: Homecoming that managed to stick with me, despite the rest of the game falling into pretty mediocre territory. Silent Hill: Homecoming - Scarlet Boss FightĬreepy kids and dolls: maybe the most overrated horror tropes around. ![]() Here are 13 of the scariest moments in Silent Hill history.
